Joe Tilston, son of noted singer-songwriter Steve Tilston and singer, flautist, bodhran player Maggie Boyle and brother of singer-songwriter Martha Tilston, has finally joined the family company after a detour to explore the UK punk scene where he played bass for Random Hand, and reveals himself to be not only a chip off the old musical blocks on his debut album, but also to be a thoughtful, introspective writer with a guitar style that may remind listeners of Nick Drake's elegant phrasings;

Genoa, Italy flat-picker supremo Beppe Gambetta, a not infrequent visitor to Little Rock Folk Club over the years, with a solo performance on a tribute album to his 'adopted' country on which he presents some of his own compositions alongside some traditional and bluegrass standards from the Delmore Brothers and Earl Scruggs, a beautiful waltz from Norman Blake, the excellent Reel de Pointe Au Pic from the Canadian fiddle repertoire, and a reworked You Are My Sunshine all of which he executes with the usual Gambetta hallmarks of technical mastery and impeccable arranging;

Multi-million selling recording artist and Laurence Olivier Award winning actor Barbara Dickson, OBE, paying tribute to the late singer/songwriter Gerry Rafferty with 13 tracks from his extensive repertoire, recorded in collaboration with well respected composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley, tracks include the anthemic Baker Street which brought Rafferty almost universal fame, and earlier compositions such as the lovely Mary Skeffington and Steamboat Row;

Cardiff, Wales singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph, sometimes dubbed the Welsh Springsteen, who has long included Springsteen songs in his live performances over the course of his 30 year career presents here 17 Springsteen songs performed with skill and passion on guitar, harmonica (and ukulele on No Surrender) and of course the voice! The album includes both well-known and some obscure songs that will be known only within the Springsteen fanbase;

Award winning Boston fiddler and composer Katie McNally, joined by a gaggle of highly respected regional musicians, delivers 42 minutes worth of Scottish and Cape Breton music that honors the traditions of both and to which she pairs her own sympathetic compositions that mesh with ease and yet which sparkle with innovation and energy; in addition to her own tunes and a number of traditional tunes she brings select pieces from Phil Cunningham (Silly Wizard) and Charlie McKerron (Capercaillie) and the project was funded by her Kickstarter supporters;

Kansas City, Kansas quintet Grand Marquis, and yet another Kickstarter funded recording, explode out of the loudspeakers like an aural film noire of 40's and 50's rhythm and blues, burlesque, rockabilly and hot jazz married to clever and panoramavision-style lyrics that successively transports the listener with each track from a spooky 2am in the morning Beale Street, to a funereal New Orleans, or a smoky after-hours club where admission depends solely on who will vouch for you;a masterpiece in search of an audience!

And finally a request for an early song from one of my favorite songwriters to close the program...
