Chris While & Julie Matthews - "Winners in the Best Duo category at the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and nine times nominated since 2001 in the Best Duo, Best Song & Best Live Act categories. Chris While and Julie Matthews’ musical partnership began in 1993 when they were key members of the legendary folk super-group The Albion Band. In 1997 they left the band to concentrate on their work as a duo which has seen them tour throughout the world and gain an ever growing devoted fan-base. Their songs have been covered by a range of artists including Mary Black, Barbara Dickson, Christine Collister and Fairport Convention." - Artists' website

In a just world While and Matthews would be being played on radio stations everywhere...

Jim Malcolm - 12th(!) solo release from this mellifluous Scottish singer-songwriter, tradition-bearer, dexterous guitarist (and no slouch on the moothie too)... formerly of Old Blind Dogs, here with an album of all traditional Scottish ballads, such as Clerk Saunders and The Bonnie Earl O' Moray, except for a superb poem from Violet Jacob, Hallowe'en, set to music by Jim Reid. All-star supporting cast including Susie (Allan) Malcolm on harmony vocals, Marc Duff whistles bodhran, Pete Clark fiddle, Dave Watt keyboards & melodica and Scooter Muse on banjo... quality, quality, quality in all departments!

Tom & Barbara Brown - "Cecil Sharp collected a number of songs from two retired sea captains in the town during a series of visits between August 1904 and May 1909. Cpt. Lewis (1835-1915) gave him 26 songs, Cpt. Vickery (1842-1916) gave him 13, and we came across them while researching for the Short Sharp Shanties project. The songs were very diverse and by no means all maritime; some were rare, others common (but in interesting variants). Together they give a fascinating window into the local vernacular song repertoire at the beginning of the 20th Century. The selection on this CD includes just some of our favourites: seven from Robert Lewis and five from James Vickery." - Artists' website

With Barbara Brown on lead & chorus vocals, Tom Brown on lead & chorus vocals, guitars, melodeons, English concertina, harpeleik and augmented by the following bespoke musicians:  Anahata ’cello; Brenda Burnside hammered dulcimer and chorus vocals; Jonny Dyer flute and whistles; Mary Eagle chorus vocals; Keith Kendrick Anglo concertina and chorus vocals; Barry Lister chorus vocals; Matt Norman: mandolin, drum, and chorus vocals; Paul Sartin: fiddle, oboe and cor anglais. Lovely!

Bruce Cockburn - revered Canadian singer/songwriter/world searcher/documenter... his third (!) boxed set I believe...

Dear Jean: Artists Celebrate Jean Ritchie - having turned 92 on Dec 8th this double CD of various acclaimed artists performing her original and family traditional songs must bring considerable pleasure to this national treasure from Viper, Kentucky who has influenced countless musicians across the years. Belated Happy Birthday Miss Jean.

Still On The Hill - superb multi-instrumental duo based in Fayetteville, AR, with a penchant for projects involving their home state; on this release they have turned their attention to the Beaver Lake and White River Watershed in north-west Arkansas with songs about the great flood of 1927, the subsequent creation of dams and the inevitable and irreparable damage such intrusions to Nature necessarily cause while simultaneously bringing benefit and safety to others. Featuring a variety of musical styles including a scintillating Quintette du Hot Club de France-style jazzy performance on Legend of White River Red. Magnificent! SOTH will be returning to Little Rock Folk Club on Sat Jan 3rd 2015 - www.littlerockfolkclub.org/
